More information
Address:
12626 NW County Road 231, Gainesville, FL
GFAS verified/accredited:
No
Animal residents:
Cows, water buffaloes, pigs, bison, horses, donkeys, and turkeys
Age restrictions:
We are in two locations: Critter Creek and Critter Hills about 20 minutes drive from one another. Critter Creek has no age restriction, but Critter Hills requires visitors to be 4 years+ old. There are no age restrictions for public events at both locations.
Tours/programs/activities for families:
We offer private tours, where guests can visit the animals, tour the sanctuary grounds, hear the animals' stories, and feed them treats. We also host a monthly farmers "moo-ket" on the first Sunday of each month (except for the summer months). The moo-kets features over 30 local 100% vegan/plant-based food trucks and arts/crafts vendors, and guests can visit the animals, feed them treats, and support local vegan businesses. Our moo-kets also feature a scavenger hunt (with prizes) for kids, as well as a kids' craft station.
Reason for offering tours/programs/activities:
We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and tours and moo-kets are a great way to raise funds for the sanctuary while allowing guests to visit and learn more about the animals and how to adopt a cruelty-free lifestyle. All proceeds from tours and moo-kets go directly back to the animals for items such as feed, medication, veterinary care, and other necessities.
Typical visit duration:
Private tours are two hours long, and if guests book tours for both locations, it's four hours total.
Sanctuary's mission:
Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary's driving mission is to promote compassion for farm animals through rescue and education.
Recommended activity:
Our farmers moo-kets! You can meet the animals, enjoy delicious plant-based foods and desserts, and participate in a scavenger hunt and crafts at our craft station.
Preparation for visiting:
Guests should wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty, and closed-toed shoes are mandatory. Boots such as rain boots or muck boots are best during the rainy/muddy season, but sneakers are okay too... just make sure you don't mind them getting dirty! We suggest wearing sunscreen and bug repellent.
Best time to visit:
We are not open to the public daily, so tours require an appointment. Our tours start as early as 9:00 AM, and the spring, fall, and winter are the best times to visit if you want to avoid the Florida heat.
Wheelchair/Stroller rentals:

On-site facilities for visitors
Volunteer opportunities:
Volunteers can help with morning feeding chores, gardening/weed pulling, and general grounds cleanup.
